To close an analysts meeting last month, a choir of Walmart associates belted out “New York, New York.” A few days later, the Arkansas retail giant announced that it had hired Bradley Tusk, Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s former campaign manager, to bolster its efforts to open a store in the Big Apple.

Walmart took advantage of a provision in Oregon’s Business Energy Tax Credit that allows third parties with no ties to the green power industry to buy renewable energy credits at a discount and reduce their state income tax bills.

Wal-Mart is complaining about collusion among its adversaries, which is hypocritical given that it uses every trick at its disposal – including the funding of front groups – to advance its expansion efforts.
